A Rustic Country Wedding in the Blue Mountains ( Featured in Together Journal)

Nathan's family legacy pretty much centres around village life in Hartley, and the reason why they had such an amazing venue for their wedding.

The Dunstan family has been living in Hartley in the Blue Mountains for over 150 years.

Nathan's great great grandfather was one of the original settlers of the village and started the family hazelnut farm which is still in existence today.

It may look a bit different in 2020 and things have changed quite a bit since 1870, but the family still holds tightly to its historic past. Nathan's grandmother still has one of the original stone cottages that was built by her grandfather in historic Hartley village.

How Nathan and Katie met was a pretty cool story. Both of them are Mechanical engineers, and met during a thermodynamics lecture at Wollongong university. Out of a class of 150, Katie was a handful of females in a typically male dominated degree, so naturally there was a bit of interest as she was pretty stunning to look at as Nathan told me during our engagement session together.

Nathan somehow plucked out the courage to ask if they could work on a group assignment together and the rest is now history. Five years later, we are here celebrating this magnificent day on the property that Nathan grew up in, right in the backyard of the farm.

To kick things off, Nathan was booted off to the nearby town of Mount Victoria to get ready, whilst Katie stayed and her bridesmaids at the family farm. There was a special four legged ring bearer called Piper, a labrador who didn't like me very much in the beginning and kept barking at me everytime i picked up my camera, but Katie told me to give her some doggie treats and she'll love you forever!

She was right, and we were best friends for the entire day :)

They even had the local high school teacher Ms Parker who volunteered to be the COVID marshall (yes, if you're reading this in 2025 then you'll ask what is a COVID marshall). Yes, we had to check everyone's temperature on arrival (myself included), check into the venue via QR code and make sure we were 1.5 metres apart at all times!

The ceremony was beautifully setup in the backyard overlooking the mountain range behind, it, the garage was setup as a bush bar with enough drinks to feed a whole village and a marquee was setup in the side of the house along with a rustic table setup by Wild Blue Studio. It looked pretty amazing!

To top off the day, we went out to Hartley village with the bridal party for our location photos, and even went to the old stone cottage that Nathan grew up in as a child.

The day was cold, actually mountains cold but nothing was going to stop them from having the time of their life!

A huge shoutout to the crew that made this Blue Mountains wedding possible
